§ 5-137. Records, reports required.

  • Any such dealer purchasing such secondhand or used personal property shall keep a book and write therein or cause to be written therein, in plain and legible hand in the English language, the true name and address of all persons from whom such dealer has acquired such personal property, and the character and quantity of such personal property. Such dealer, in addition to the foregoing requirements, shall have a printed form statement and report, in duplicate, which shall be supplied by the police department and shall be accurately filled out by the dealer at the time of the making of such purchase, and one (1) of which statement and report shall be delivered by the dealer to the police department within twenty-four (24) hours after the making of such purchase, setting forth in the statement and report the name of the dealer, the name of the vendor an his place of residence, a statement of the character and quantity of the personal property so purchased, the price paid therefor, the name of the party from whom such vendor acquired such personal property. Such statement and report shall be signed by the dealer and countersigned by the vendor of the property. All records of such dealer, pertaining to the purchase of such personal property and required by this article, shall be kept by him on file in his place of business for a period of not less than one (1) year from the date of the transaction, and shall at all times be open to the inspection and examination of the police officers of the city.
