§ 1-105. Department of economic development established; responsibilities.

  • (a)

    The department of economic development is hereby established and shall be headed by a director who shall be appointed and shall serve pursuant to the provisions of Miss. Code Ann. 1972, § 21-8-23.

    (b)

    The department of economic development shall have the responsibility for planning, developing, organizing and supervising economic activities, and for identifying, creating, pursuing and developing economic development opportunities, and marketing those opportunities to encourage quality businesses, tourism, and desirable industrial development in and relocation to Gulfport, and to seek such other goals as may be directed by the mayor and or the chief administrative officer (CAO) to be administered and supervised by the department to increase the number of good job opportunities and to expand and improve civic and recreational resources for citizens and visitors, and to increase the financial base to support public services and an improved quality of life in the city. The services of the department of economic development shall be further administered by the Main Street division.
